Well, I usually feel depressed during my period, experiencing severe mood swings and cramps. I never have the desire to do anything or go out anywhere while I am on my period. All I want to do is sleep the whole day. I feel weak, tired, and energy less.
While feeling low during your period is completely normal because menstruation causes both mental and physical discomfort, and many women have to deal with it.
Why do we feel depressed during our Period?

During menstrual cycle, female bodies undergo various changes. Women have to deal with bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, and dizziness. Some women may also experience symptoms such as fever right before their period.
These symptoms and experiences are usually part of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). Women go through this phase of feeling low and depressed because of hormonal fluctuations. During different phases of menstrual cycle, there are variations in estrogen and progesterone levels, affecting the neurotransmitter chemicals in the brain, like serotonin and dopamine, which are responsible for our mood.
Women having preexisting mental health issues and underlying diseases like PCOD and PCOS can experience severe depression or anxiety along with painful menstrual cramps due to changes in hormone levels.
In addition to all of these, women may also have low energy levels due to the blood loss, often leading to fatigue.
